Historically, the WTBTS (JW.org) has always refered to their members (JWs) as “the friends”, & since the only “friends” the borg says are OK to have are other JWs by default, but in reality such are usually just aquatintances at best (who are ‘encouraged’ to turn each other in to the elders if they observe their ‘bro/sis’ acting/speaking out-of-step with the borg; loyalty to their borg trumps “friendships”). They are only supposed to make “friends” within the borg (since everyone else is labeled as a “worldly”/poor-associate & ‘not approved’ by God.
